Job description
Join Brainboss as a Release Train Engineer!
Are you ready to make an impact on high‑value projects from day one? At Brainboss, we don’t just manage projects, we help organisations gain control over their entire portfolio landscape. Our approach is rooted in Product Portfolio Management (PPM): we structure initiatives, create transparency, and ensure that every initiative contributes to measurable business value. Through our proven approach, we guide clients from strategy to execution with clarity, discipline, and momentum. Whether it’s shaping a portfolio, setting up governance, or driving delivery, Brainboss ensures organisations move with purpose and focus.
As a Release Train Engineer, you'll run ARTs at some of the most complex organisations in the Netherlands, across public sector, financial services, and retail. You'll facilitate PI Planning, drive the cadence, clear impediments, and coach Scrum Masters and leadership through the change. What makes this role different from a standard RTE position is the altitude: at Brainboss we expect you to connect train-level execution to the portfolio above it. You'll be part of our Execution Team, working alongside experienced Consultants and Project Managers.
Job requirements
Key Responsibilities:
Train and coach Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and Agile teams in Scrum, Kanban, and SAFe practices following transformation roll-out.
Facilitate PI Planning, retrospectives, refinement, and other Agile ceremonies to support teams in sustaining new ways of working.
Monitor and report on team and Agile Release Train maturity, identifying areas for continued improvement.
Support the coordination of dependencies and risks across teams within the Agile Release Train.
Maintain alignment between portfolio strategy and team-level execution by keeping visibility of the strategic backlog and program roadmap.
Coach at every level: Coach Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and teams in Lean-Agile practice, and coach leadership in the behaviours that make it stick.
You’re a perfect fit if you:
Have 5+ years of experience in agile delivery roles (e.g. Scrum Master, Agile Coach, Release Train Engineer)
Are fluent in both Dutch and English (minimum C1 level)
Have a higher education degree (Bachelor's, Master's, HBO, or WO)
Have solid understanding of Product/Lean Portfolio Management (PPM/LPM)
Have run PI Planning and full PI cycles for an ART of multiple teams
Bring demonstrable coaching capability
Hold or are ready to acquire SAFe RTE certification (SAFe Release Train Engineer, SAFe Practice Consultant, or equivalent)
Ideally have hands-on experience with Jira and Confluence
